Yes, I would and I do all the time!
If conditions are good, I use the GRC-9, BC-1306, GRC-109, TCS or the
Wireless Set 19 at 12-20 W. If my signal is marginal at best, I'll use the
GRC-19 (T-195 transmitter/R-392 receiver) at 100 W. Only if the 100 W
transmitter doesn't hack it, I can fall back on to the T-368 transmitter
(400 W).
During some old military radio nets, I copy stations using 10-20 W from New
England and Canada, like gangbusters, here in northwestern South Carolina.
Similarly, if I'm just chatting with someone on SSB using the ricebox and I
can be heard without strain and/or fatique, I won't turn the kilowatt linear
amp on for 10 dB gain.
It's all a matter of comfortable signal to noise ratio at the receiving end.
