I've run my TCS transmitter for years at around 450 vdc with no ill effects.
Have never heard that the mod transformers in the TCS were a problem and have
experienced no problem with mine. The rig is somewhat short on audio, though,
and one has to yell into the mic to get 100% modulation with a
run-of-the-mill carbon units. I use a small transistor pre-amp with the TCS and several
other surplus radios that originally fed the modulator grids directly from the
mic through a step-up transformer. The pre-amp can be hidden under the
chassis and solves the problem completely (see ER # 103, Nov. 97).
