I've run my TCS transmitter for years at around 450 vdc with no ill effects.  
  

Have never heard that the mod transformers in the TCS were a problem and have 
experienced no problem with mine. The rig is somewhat short on audio, though, 
and one has to yell into the mic to get 100% modulation with a 
run-of-the-mill carbon units.   I use a small transistor pre-amp with the TCS and several 
other surplus radios that originally fed the modulator grids directly from the 
mic through a step-up transformer.   The pre-amp can be hidden under the 
chassis and solves the problem completely (see ER # 103, Nov. 97).
