Why? For about 1/2 "S" unit? Not worth either the effort or the danger to the
components.

I would not do any of this. As others have mentioned, a TCS is a nice rig and
they are getting harder to get. Please leave it alone.
BTW, I have worked 35 countries on 40 meters with a stock AN/GRC-109,
crystal control and an end-fed "long-wire". The power output of the
transmitter is AT MOST, 15 watts. Most of the time it is about 10 watts. I have
no trouble working anyone I can hear.
1/2 "S" unit would never have made any difference at all.
