be condemned outa hand

Best thing on an old item is use external supply with big WW ciurrent-
limiting R to B+ across ckt. AND across AVC line.  Wait for voltage to 
level out indicstion electrolytic reform, then go along w. VTVM & 
find/replace the bad 'uns.

Check pwr xfrmr by pulling rectifier & hit the juice w. a 100W bulb in
series w. line.

I stick with description "Best thing."

This is a direct way of bringing up an OT giz in a short time.
Contrasts sharply with typing incessantly about nostrums like "deadly 
capacitor lists, bringing up slow w. variac, etc"
