sure it would be neat to compare them !
I will attempt to find the cable for the 'good' digital camera and get =
you a better picture also!
feels good to sit at a terminal tonight sorted incoming stuff and =
cleaned it from 7am till 10 this evening....
the nasty stuff it seemed needed to be cleaned during the time of day =
it was 109 degrees..... even she who must be obeyed is bringing me =
pitches of ice water as we speak...

  Ed, really neat item.

I believe what you have is the Japanese version of the US E-6B =
computer with some added benefits. As you will notice, the rear of the =
computer has the time and distance scales in circular slide rule =
fashion, which, like the E-6B are used to find groundspeed, time to =
checkpoint, and most any other calculation one needs for air navigation. =
The front, appears to be what is normally considered the "Back" of the =
E6B and is used to solve the wind triangle. I believe the center is the =
wind computer and also a simple driftmeter. If one were to use the =
center bar to the true course, then lay the wind off from the center =
grommet, you would have your wind correction set in.=20
It looks like it might have some other things on there as well, such =
as the ability to use it as a set of parallel rules to "move" a course =
point on a chart, and some others which, since I can't really see the =
indicia that clearly, I don't know the use. =20
At any rate, it is a navigation computer similar in use and =
construction to the friendly old E6B (If you don't have a pic of one let =
me know, and I will take one of mine (even with all the bells and =
whistles available nowadays, I still like the old E6B.

  Ed,
do you have a pix of the Japanese plotter? It sounds from your
description like a standard nav plotter used with sectional charts
today, and is used to lay off courses from true to magnetic.
The other possibility, is it a pantograph? That configuration was used
with a driftmeter.
If you have a pix, send it on, will try to figure it out (I am a pilot
as well as an avid milspec type, and have an interest in the "old"
methods of nav (celestial, etc) just because they are there..

another neat item that was in the incoming batch was a INTERCEPT =
OFFICERS
EQUIPMENT box, they appear to be navigational tools. need to =
learn more
about this...
Also stashed in the museum we have a Japanese WWII sort of map =
plotter
rule protractor thing. ( wish I knew more about nav stuff...)
these things are all very interesting to me but I am trying to figure =
out
what display to put them in.
I suppose they would fit in a display with computational devices more =
so
      than radar and comm?
  Ideas?
