On the USS Cabot (CVL-28), and most other aircraft carriers I'm farily
sure, the aircraft were just pushed over the side to make room for
loading returning troops aboard to get them back to the States ASAP.
Most of the Cabots Hellcats and Avengers are at the bottom of the Yellow
Sea.
