I said that with having just a loop.  Now make a right 90-deg. turn.  If
you have to turn loop 90-deg. rt. for null, you were TO

However if you fly on, say, 20 miles in the new direction & you
had to move the loop MORE RIGHT for null, you were flying FROM in original
direction.

If you had to twist it MORE LEFT, you were flying TO.

Do it on paper to confirm

I think all 1943 navigators had to know this, but I don't know about
2003 button boys.

The procedure isn't windows-compatible.
