I'm surprised you don't have a dozen answers by now. The earlier 390 had
standard LC selective circuits, and therefore a smoother phase response
across the passband. On the other hand, replacing the mechanical filters
in the A will help that a lot, and the synchronous detector is always a
better choice for SSB detection. My last info is that BBC is still AM,
while the airways comms are SSB. You really need one of each, when you
get right down to it. On either of them, you need to do one of the
better audio mods to get the best quality audio out of it anyway.
