Fred,

The RA-133-(*) (tech manual is TB 11-300-3) was originally built for the
BC-221's (except BC-221-B and -Q, which have a different battery arrangement
and used PP-79/UR). I'm almost sure that they were carried forward for the
TS-173, 174, 175 and 323, although one TS-173 that I have had a PP-79/UR in
it when I got it.

The RA-133, RA-133-A and RA-133-B all have a VR-150 followed by a fixed
resistor to drop the output voltage to the 135 VDC that the BC-221's were
designed for. One minor (and reversible) mod that I've made to some of mine
is to shunt the fixed resistor with a 14 volt zener diode (never could find a
15 volt one). This improves the voltage regulation to the BC-221
significantly. especially as several of the resistors had drifted high.

>Robert's post reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask. I have
an RA-133-B RPU, Bright Radio Labs, 13523-Phila-51, which someone had
crammed into the battery box of my otherwise-decent TS-323/UR freq meter
as a (somewhat) suitable AC supply.

>Can anyone tell me if this was the 'usual' or 'customary' battery
eliminator for this freq meter; and if not, what was, and for what was
this one normally used?
