The test set that you remember is the IE-17-(*).  The case with the holes in 
the side is the CS-81-(*) and the test unit with metering, crystal oscillator 
and audio oscillator (for modulating the transmitter) is the I-135-(*).  The 
other components were the FT-252-(*) Test Stand (held the CS-81 upright and 
rigid) and the A-82-(*) Phantom Antenna.  Interesting thing is that the A-82 
is not used to tune the transmitter, but only to confirm that the loading 
isn't excessive, which causes downward modulation when operated.

Those hand held walkie-talkies, when I first got into the Army
Air Corps our shop had the test equipment to align those things.
A case with some holes in it was used to facilitate adjustment,
and the regular case was put on when the job was finished.  Also,
the xtal controled signal generator had a metal case, and a small
slot with a sliding cover to adjust the level of the radiated
