[Milsurplus] Throat Mike

Just my vague recollections after over 50 years......

As a young kid right after the war, I was given several throat mikes along
with other surplus gear in return for working after school and on Saturdays
at a radio store's repair shop.

I remember hooking the mikes up and running into an audio amplifier to a
speaker. I seem to remember how mushy and distorted the sound was but think
it was much better when I held/pushed the mike elements against my throat at
the larynx with my left hand.

If you believe these mikes were for "hands free" operation then it makes no
sense. But, if you believe the mikes were developed to provide low noise
interference pickup then it makes all the sense in the world. In fact, in
conjecture, I think I had seen that technique used either in a movie or shown
in a picture in a TM.

I wasn't impressed with the intelligibility in any case!
