Hi Dave & List:

Pointers? I have a number of BQ-348's of various letter suffixes. The
original control knobs are plain cylindrical, knurled around the
circumference. The pointer is either stamped in or cast into the pot metal,
basically an arrow filled with white paint. Other knobs may be the same
without the arrow. The band change knob and tuning knob are unique.

If that's what you have, and the paint is bad, best to completely strip
them, remove any corrosion and re-finish. Most were wrinkle-finished like
the receivers. That might be a bit tough to replicate and makes re-filling
the arrows difficult. So, you might be better off with a semigloss black,
or even flat. If you have bakelite fluted knobs with the separate stamped
metal pointers, staked, riveted or screwed onto the backsides of the knobs,
I doubt if they're original.

As for the setscrews, try the liquid wrench, but avoid getting it on the
panel. Two tricks that have been mentioned -- heat up the allen key,
screwdriver or Bristol wrench(depending) or the knob itself - or -- try
tightening first a bit (after the Liquid Wrench treatment or heat). Some
say this helps cut the dimple in the shaft a bit more and releasing the
tension on the setscrew -- or something like that.

Hope this helps, - but interested to know what kind of knobs you have on
that one if they have separate pointers.
