This might be a long shot, but I had a similar problem with a 
Command Set receiver.  The problem was in the main tuning capacitor:
oxidation had set up between some of the plates and spacer washers that 
make up the stator half of the cap. Flexing the cap would fix it
temporarily.
I made a micro "spot welder" out of a 12-volt supply and some pilot
light bulbs.
I touched a copper wire to the joints and the spark created would
"weld" the joint.  Had to play around with the bulbs to get the "right"
spark.
That solved the problem.
