There was at the time. Military activities took place on the ground,
and naval activities on water.

Markedly so. And then patent examiners were competent, too. I'll spare
you the rant I'm brewing for another list, over two recent software
patents for _PRECISELY_ _THE_ _SAME_ _THING_, issued to two competing
companies.
