I was thinking today of these features i have noticed about German WW2
radio electronics, and wondering if in fact these were the first appearances
of such innovations:

1) Projection frequency display ( E52 receiver ).
Seen in USA around 1951 with Navy SRR, FRR series.

2) Aircraft DF loop antenna, using ferrite bar core ( loop for EZ6 receiver
of FuG10 complete set )
Seen in USA with ARN-6 ???

3) Tuning knob with spinner post that folds back flush ( FuB1, EZ6, FuG10
receivers, MWEc receiver, FuHE* series receivers.
Seen in postwar US ARC-2, also i have a USN microwave signal generator with
the same type knob.

4) Single person operable, automatic SOS transmitter ( Notsender ). US
BC-778 copied this idea.

5) Tape antenna ( built with multiple layers of tape-measure like metal.
( Feldfunk series radio, also maybe KlFud ). Seen in USA PRC-8, 9, 10
in 1951. Advantage is antenna can be folded in one half for easier packing,
bends for obstructions without breaking.

6) Capacitive hats on mobile MF/ HF antennas. ( Sternantenna "star
antenna) for 30WS, 80WS transmitters with 1-3 Mc/s operating range.)
( Never used in US military mobile HF radio, but popular idea for ham HF
mobile.)

Don't get me wrong, i am no fawning believer in the mystical superiority of
German equipment. Most of their gear was stuck in the late 1930s, and some
really looked dated by 1940 already, overly heavy and low powered. For
any of the Axis powers to produce something like the BC-1000, ARC-1,
or ART-13 was totally out of the picture.
