For those of us that collect ancient radar pieces, this is *very*much*
the case. Prior to Ebay, pretty much only aircraft radar parts had a
chance of being on the market. The shipboard and ground stuff had to be
acquired by luck - be in the right place at the right time, and plan on a
road trip or two to check out a stash or "hunk of something" in some
ham's garage.
The same holds true with underwater sound and sonar gear - prior to Ebay,
the best you could hope for is a leftover chassis someone stripped for
audio parts!
