Hue:

I did some back of the envelope calculations on elevation effects on BCB
signals, and where the wavelengths are around a thousand feet, give or
take, a plane at 2 or 3 thousand feet over salt water isn't going to see
a much better signal than at the surface.  So, Mark's comments would
apply to the historical airborne case.  Modern jet altitudes, now that's
another matter which I didn't calculate.  I chuckled at his reference to
using a long wire on the DF receiver, since it is pretty well documented
that AE discarded hers.
