Dave R... I went thru that web site with much interest!

What a cheerful, unspoiled, enthusiastic guy that author seems to be.
And the size of the compendium is staggering.

So back to this R-148 thing here. Looks like a "Q5-er" that's had a dial,
239kc IF xfrmr, & RF/osc coil-group transplant. And maybe the variable
cap-bank too (see below)

Found the LH spline jobbie just switches between loop & wire. Rememgber
what I said about wcom?

For Dave Simpson, rear panel's marked

          left side right side

ARC 10007 .19 .55 mc 3 45 CAUTION 14VOLTS RELEASED 1 45

Kinda goofy since web site says it's a R-23A. And that's supposed to
be 28V whereas 10008 is R148 & 14V. Humbug

      ---BUT WAIT THAT'S NOT ALL---

There was a mate to the above BCB odd-bodkins. This critter's back side
stamped

          left side right side

ARC 9603 .19 .55 mc 11 43 USN-anchor RELEASED 2 43

This critter's missing top cover but per web site ARC 9603 is R-24 BCB
ARC 5. & I exposed it's variable cap-bank which is marked 3936 & looks for
all the world like that in a BC939 rat nearby. It too has loop
input & "the spline switch" (albeit missing the cover)

This goofus has a 6VDC Ge oscillator supply by Sunair. Model 6D serial
043

             ----S. W. A. G.----

These were both factory B-C band adaptations of Q5-er used to home on
BC stations rather than NDBs.

Go figure
