I was curious about that as well. Use of a good imaging tool allowed
adjustment of the brightness and contrast level to see the detail, but
it didn't help me from an identification standpoint. Looks somewhat
like the end of a dynamotor on the other side of that Cannon coarse
thread connector, but that's as far as I can go since I don't follow
later equipment.
I'll accept Dave S' observation on the BC-348 Canadian tag, but in that
case I'm a little bit puzzled by the lack of fuselage insulation.
Perhaps it's the 'winter of no end' affecting my judgment... :-) The
only other airframe I can remember configured like that was a bunch of
ex-Coast Guard surveillance seaplanes in one of the Tucson bone yards to
which the Telegrapher brought me a few years ago (blindfolded in the
back of a windowless van, IIRC.)
