Now I'm confused more than the usual level. During and after
WWII the Gibson Girl was an emergency HF transmitter that was
to be used in case the aircraft ditched at sea. It was yellow.
It was shaped so as to be operated while placed between ones
legs, (while sitting). It was crank-operated. It had an
antenna reel and a kite antenna. The "Gibson Girls" were a series
of sexy, (for the time), pinups, and like the transmitter they
were big at the top and bottom, and narrow around the waist.
The transmitter had an automatic keyer which keyed SOS, and a
hand key. I would guess they were for 500 KHz and 8280 KHz.
Don't know for sure. 73 Clete
