[Milsurplus] Tube Info wanted - VU111S

Does anyone know what application the VU111S vacuum tube might have had?  I 
have a box full that are in Canadian GE boxes.  Made on a 1944 Signal Corps 
order.  Odd looking tubes.  Bulb shape about the same as an 807/1625 (and has 
cap, although I haven't determined whether it is plate or grid).  Cap and top 
of bulb are coated with a silver metallic paint.  Base size is typical and 
material is black bakelite or similar, but the four pins are smaller in 
diameter than the typical ones (on a 5Z3 for example), all the same diameter, 
and have contact leaves like a banana pin but smaller.  Length is about the 
same as standard.
