Dave, Mike and Gang,
I have just finished restoring one of these (actually the 24 V version,
BC-430) and hope to have it on the air soon. It puts out 10w and the
modulation looks good on the scope. The bathtub caps had to be rebuilt with
new caps placed inside the cans. Fortunately, the transformers were OK. The
VT-52 tubes are rare so I am using 6A3s in place of those (direct plug-in).
The 6A3 needs a little less bias than the 45 so I had to adjust that a bit.
Right now I am trying to get a coil set working on 160m because QRP AM seems
to better there than on 75m because of less QRM. My GF-11 with 2 watts out
got 300 miles on 160 AM. Before the 430 goes on the air I need to find or
build a proper junction box and antenna relay also.
