I administered several estates of departed relatives over the decades. 
After 25 years or so, their SSNs are useful to send these people.  The
Feds get interested real quick when those old numbers reappear on
applications.  And, their credit is excellent, no bad marks in a quarter
century.   My deceased Father-in-law received an application for a
Titanium credit card 3 years after his death.  I was sorely tempted.
