When i first noticed these tags, i caught on pretty quick, and later i took a
statistics class, in which the serial numbers business was briefly mentioned.
Then reading others' inputs here. Actually, i think the only excised tags i
have seen, are on RU/GF gear. I recall that it looked like it was executed with
a drill. I also recall that i thought it was a little humorous that the Navy saw
fit to obliterate data on the tags of some radio equipment that was already
nearing obsolesence. Altho the Japanese military used some primitive
seeming equipment, and some HF gear that apparently didn't work that well,
(from what i've read), they had no TRF aircraft receivers, and the transmitters
almost totally crystal controlled.
