I don't know where I came across the TM 11-838 number but as I have the base 
date (05/10/45) but not the page count it was probably in the SIG catalog of 
manuals (whose FM number escapes me at the moment) that preceded DA PAM 310-4.  
It could be just a copy of the one Dennis has with Signal Corps covers and 
War Dept title page.  There are some precedents for this.  As well as buying and 
using the set without assigning it a new nomenclature.  In my TM collection, 
I probably have 20 or 30 such examples.  There are a number of examples shown 
in the back of TM 11-487, mostly big long range transmitters like those from 
Press Wireless but also smaller ones like the Collins 32RA.  And quite a few 
receivers.
