[Milsurplus] Radio Identification

I just went to http://www.google.com and did a search on "collins 618T."
It is 2.0 - 29.999 MHz but only tunes in full 1 kHz steps. Not too useful
for a ham transceiver.
I didn't do the search, but Google is a tremendous source for links to
just about anything you can imagine.

It's been a long time, but I think the 618T tunes in .1 kHz steps
and runs 3.0 (maybe 2.0) to 29.9999 MHz. It may be USB only.

I have recently acquired two "boat anchors" in
waterproof, vehicle mount cases. They are quite heavy
and contain the following:
Case #1
Collins 618T HF transceiver
power supply
associated relaying and connections, racks etc
control box (mounted on outside of case)
Case #2
Collins ARC 51 UHF transceiver
Collins VHF transceiver (aircraft freqs)
power supply for radios
associated relaying, connectors, racks etc.
control boxes for both units mounted on outside of
case.
Any ideas what this particular system was used for?
Possible tactical system??? Looks like the HF unit
could be used for Ham use as all interconnections are
intact.
Thanks for any help.
