The easiest way to use the HC6/U crystals in FT-243
holders is to solder old octal tube pins to the pins
on the HC6/U holders. They then will fit the FT-243
sockets perfectly.

Unfortunately, not all transmitters will work with the
HC6/U type crystals. Also, some run too much current
and will actually damage the HC6/U. Fortunately, the
vast majority of "boat anchor" transmitters don't run
high enough current to damage the crystal, but I have
run into a fair number of transmitters that were
pretty selective as to which HC6/U crystal would work.
Some crystals would work fine, then others would not
oscillate. I could then try the same crystal in
another transmitter and it would work fine.

I know that these are not new techniques but perhaps
some of you have never attempted it and would like to
try it.
