In 1946, when I got into USAF radio and navigational
aid maintenance, the 522's in Europe, and everywhere
else I knew of until the USAF started using 200 - 400
MHz UHF about 1955, used 116.1 or 119.1 (?)(A chan)for
Control Tower and Organizational, 126.18 (B chan)
Control Tower Primary, 137.88 for Air Route Traffic
Control, 140.58 for VHF Direction Finder Stations and
other guidance. Berlin Airways where I worked used
C and D. The Templehof Tower used A and B. The
original antennas used on the BC-639 and BC-640 did
not cover the 100 - 156 band very well, so the larger
diameter (couple of inches) were devised. 73 Clete
