In 1969, Navy-Marine Corps MARS got a large number of the HF receivers =
(AN/SRR-13, -13A, and AN/FRR-23) to "loan" to the members (The USN =
didn't drop accountability on mine until the mid-1970s). Most of them =
needed some work (tube replacement and alignments). As I recall, no one =
ever came across a CG-1101/SRR cable assembly to help. I lucked out and =
got a great condition AN/SRR-13A model (1961-made, IIRC), with the =
latest Navy mods to replace most of the vacuum tube signal diodes with =
solid-state diodes, along with a very late mod which replaced the power =
supply vacuum tube rectifier with solid state rectifiers. However, =
there were some problems with my unit that I had to fix, including a =
mechanical one with the dial drive assembly (backlash), due to the gear =
pre-loading having been lost on a main gear drive. For electrical =
problems, I worked on mine by pulling out the whole receiver chassis =
away from the case, and connecting AC power to the appropriate two pins =
on the back of the chassis plug, and a wire antenna to the appropriate =
coax connector on the same plug. During the first few years, I had to =
troubleshoot and replace several of the wired-in subminiature tubes. =
Oddly, I don't ever recall any particular difficulty working on the set =
without using any of the special custom items that the regular USN techs =
would have had.

Lots of luck finding such oddball connectors! I don't think you'll =
*need* a CG-1101, though, for most troubleshooting and repair efforts.

I also don't know how hard it would be today to find a stock of the =
appropriate tubes. It's been 32 years since the last time I replaced =
any.

I found the receiver to do a rather good job of SSB reception. I used =
this receiver as my main SWL set at most of my duty stations while on =
active duty with the USN 30 years ago.
