Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I am trying to get into this hobby, just wanted to make sure I would be
doing it responsibly.

I'm sure that eyes are wider open during war-time. I guess as long as I am
not compromising Military communications, possession of (in-service/recently
retired) Mil radios wouldn't do any harm. Am I on track here?

In a previous life I was quite knowledgeable of crypto exportation
laws/standards. For the most part I am just following those guidelines.


Actually, makes me want to start a FAQ of the subject.
