The CAF folks at Peachtree City, GA enthusiasticlly took an ASB radar
display a month back. I received a acceptance letter and a certificate
for "a ride around the patch" in return
Display's home is rear seat in their flying SBD. Interesting story
told by one ex-pilot Collins who said display pivoted @ rear & hung
to dash on display front so rear-seat man's knees straddled it. If things
got testy & the rear gun was needed, display front was unhooked, dropped,
& war business ensued.
This was just how one unit mixed ASB radars & SBDs. Douglas manual only
shows under-wing yagis & suggests "mounting ingenuity"
Incidentally, the ride will be a kid's Christmas present
And that SBD is a 10'-out job & flown a lot... with a DC-3 motor. I
like it that way.
Sounds like ONE HUGE AT6
