Was: [Milsurplus] Enigma .... not THAT one !

To those who feel the real mission here is location of depot spares,
this is a digression, delete quick.

Pete there was a 3 volume hardbound series done here 45 years+ back.

The US Army in WW2
   The Technical Series
      The Signal Corps
          from the archives staff

-vol 1: the emergency (thru mid-'41)
2: the test (thru late '43)
3: the outcome ( to the end / US Lib. of Congress 56-60003)

Each about 600 pages long. Some distrust 'em & believe literary license
is taken.

For example where else could you find that Majestic & Zenith managed 1st
post-6/6/44 continental electronic producion in Belgium in 11/44? And
set made was R100 morale job? 100,000+!

And stuff on units "going vhf early" with WE232 set later called ARC-4

And USAAF "going around the system" & ordering JT350s early on for
forward North African airbases.

Anyway, I've got vol.s 2 & 3 & love 'em.

Have never found V1 DURNIT. Hear it writes up largest ever 4-div'n
field exercise in Mississipi & AL in early '41.* That's where, among
things, FM sank AM for field use.

It's not like we didn't know it was coming.

*British did 'live test' @ Dieppe Belgium in '42. Actually went ashore
to get a Wurzburg radar & test defenses - Jerry had to ride cross-
country on bikes & blew all their tires on stone roads! See "Operation
 Green Beach"
