Yes- but the loop isn't just wire, it actually has some surface, so it's not
hopeless. And doing it this way removed any need to have antenna
loading and matching controls. And it worked, for the distance range
they needed. ( or - part of the distance, anyway, hi ).
Old magazine Radio News around 1941, also Feb 44 Radio News
shows Italian manpack radio which used a 1 meter diameter loop
and operated in 2 - 3 MHz range.
