Er, ahhh,
*is* one of the "elephant cage " DF systems (CDAAs) based on the German
Wullenweber. The Navy FRD-10 is the other. Still a couple of both
designs in operation, barely. Actually, Canada has several FRD-10s
running which they don't admit they have. Same attitude Germany has
toward their FLR-9. The Fllipinos had the right idea, make apartments
out of the FLR-9 low band antenna bases that Mt. Pinatubo shut down.
Milsurplus content: While lots of equipment and material is beginning to
surface from the Air Force's closely held FLR-9s, little or nothing has
appeared from the closure of the Navy's FRD-10s. One contributor was the
closure of San Antonio Air Material Area (Kelly Field), which provided
logistics support for the FLR-9s, while the Navy stuff is safe in
Mechanicsburg, although they have no idea what they have in there.
