Group,

You're confusing two completely different headsets. The original post said
H-16/U (2B800-16) which, as I said, is an 8000 ohm Korean War era headset,
pretty comfortable to wear, equipped with the short bailout cord ending in a
PL-54 and issued with the AN/GRR-5 (later) and later AN/GRC-9's, AN/VRC-34
and AN/GRC-87.

The HS-16 (4A916) and HS-16-A (4A916A) are pre-WW-II designs, 520 ohm,
equipped with an HB-1 Headband and a 4.5' cloth covered cord ending in tip
pins. They were made by Utah, Murdock and others and were used with code
training sets.

The ones that everyone has seen so many of are HS-16-A's made by Consolidated
in the 60's. They are almost identical to the WW-II ones, even to the cloth
covered cord. And incidentally, Trimm and others made a 1/4" phone plug with
a large (11/16") diameter body and two screw terminals that the tip pins fit
into quite well.
