[Milsurplus] H-16/U

I just bought a pair of these NOS HS-16/Us thinking (not being familiar with 
the nomenclature) they were perhaps fairly modern headsets. Imagine my 
surprise when I opened them and found separate pin tip connectors.

Haven't seen anything like that for years. When were they used, World War I??

Are those pin tips swaged to litz wire? I'd like to put a PL-68 on them and 
use them on my SX-28, but I've had trouble with litz wire before. These 
things should be pretty close to 600 ohms, right?

If only I had known, I would have kept them in the original packaging as a 
collector's item. BUMMER!
