I saw oodles of German-manufactured GRC-9's with all the accessories (also
German) at a surplus dealer's booth when I went to the Friedrichshafen
hamfest in Germany a couple of years ago. The prices were cheaper than the
GRC-9's Fair Radio sold when they still had them some 9-10 years ago.

Subject:	[Milsurplus] AN/GRC-90-Gy

Groups,

Some time ago there was a discussion on one or both of these lists as to
whether the complete AN/GRC-9 had been built under NATO contracts or just
most of the components. Courtesy of a list member, I now have a manual on
AN/GRC-9-Gy. The front cover says "HANDBOOK FURNISHED IN LIEU OF TM 11-263"
and "AN/GRC-9" but inside, it reads "AN/GRC-GY" and the nomenclature of all
but a few components have "-GY" appended. Exceptions are Battery BA-48,
Headset HS-30, Microphones T-17 and T-45 and Generator PE-162 (which
technically was not a part of AN/GRC-9 anyway). The manual is dated July
1954 on the cover and inside looks pretty much like the 1956 TM 11-263
except
that there are no issue date, approval or distribution pages. Sig Stk
Numbers are suffixed "-GY".
