Subject: radio battery
Sir:
I was advised to contact you about a battery I have. I'd like to know what
it is, and if it has any value. It is a metal box, with a hinged lid,
mostly painted OD. Inside are three cells connected in series, with leads
to the top where there are wing nuts, marked + and-. It is 9 1/2" tall, 6"
wide, and 4" thick with two mounting straps on the back. About the size of
a 1 gallon paint thinner can. The tag on top is clearly legible, it says:
SIGNAL CORPS US ARMY
Edison Storage Battery
Type B. B. 4
Order No. 41705
Date Feb 27, 1918
Edison Storage Battery Co
Orange NJ
There is no corrosion inside the box, and the three cell caps are not stuck,
there doesn't seem to be any liquid in the cells, although I didn't turn it
upside down.
Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
