Barry,
There were two manufacturers of BC-611's, Galvin and Electronics Research=
Laboratories, Inc. (ERLa, a Galvin subsidiary). We (myself and two or
three other BC-611 collectors) are almost certain that ERLa only made
BC-611-C (while Galvin was building BC-611-E) and BC-611-F. We are also
pretty sure that if the silkscreened lettering on the bottom phenolic
contact plate is silver, it was made by Galvin, and if black, it was made=
by ERLa. Further, the contractor codes for Galvin (CGQ) and ERLa (CZE) m=
ay
be found on the chassis.
I took a look at what I presume is your auction, and although I can't say=
conclusively that it is a BC-611-D, it is definitely not a BC-611-F. Som=
e
BC-611 chassis have the full model (i.e., BC-611-D) silkscreened on the
bottom plate, but most (including some BC-611-D's that I have had) just s=
ay
BC-611-, as yours does. Also, the NOSB -D chassis that I have opened hav=
e
all had the antenna and the black bakelite slotted guide tube. Some -C's=
and -E's that I have opened have and some have not. If there was a close=
up
view of the top of the chassis showing the clear plastic antenna support
mounting screw nut and the threaded block that is used to hold the chassi=
s
in the radio case, I could possibly draw two more conclusions. Finally,
"Galvin" is printed on the audio choke near the bottom plate. While agai=
n,
this isn't totally conclusive, none of the ERLa C's that I have here have=
anything but a part number.
>i put a BC-611 chassis w/ original box up for auction, were there
multiple manufacturers, and where would they have put their markings on
the chassis? i cannot find any as yet and have been asked who made the
unit.<
