Clete, Eric & Group,
The rack mounted rectifier power supply was the RA-42. The various sets
that used the BC-638, 639 and 640 (as well as the SCR-624 which is a grou=
nd
verison of the SCR-522) are covered in Signal Section, Air Service Comman=
d,
VHF Fighter Control Equipment Handbook (which I call AAFHBK2) dated
10/15/43. This is a companion volume to Airborne Radio Equipment Handboo=
k,
produced by the same people. Both of these handbooks were written as
training text for supply officers and personel (as was TM 11-487 - you ju=
st
thought it was written for collectors). No schematics, but some photos. =
Schematics and hookup info are in the maintenance manuals, most of which
have no TM, T.O., etc. numbers. Bendix produced most of the maintenance
manuals and at least some of the hardware.
>Look closely and you'll see that the BC-639 and the receiver portion
of the SCR-522 are very much the same except for the way the tuning
capacitors are turned. The BC-639 has a gear and a knob, while the
SCR-522 has those damm slides. There's a power supply for the BC-639
that fits into the same rack. Almost all fixed plant equipment was
rack mounted. I have some pictures from 1946 and 1952. 73 Clete
