I have seen BC-610's used as Navigation Beacons along air routes in
the Pacific (Japan and Korea) during the Korean War, and as late as
1966 on Okuma and Okino (Okinawa).  I put one on the high end of the
AM Broadcast band about 1530 KHz at Kadena Okinawa for use as a way to
alert the troops who lived off-base.  The antenna loading coil was #10
house wiring wire wound around a wood box.  Technically it worked, but
the whole idea was dumb.  Ask any one who was there in 1963...
