BTW, this reminds me, the WECo ( type 20 ? ) aircraft transmitter, the
same model as carried on A. Earhart's 10E aircraft, had a "mic sensitivity"
switch, so you could cut down on that "realistic" background noise.

Actually, a decent dynamotor ripple would be pretty authentic. Could
even key the transmitter and have it bring the dynamotor up to speed
from a reduced RPM.
