Has anyone done anything like record rackety things for use as background 
during ham-employment of GI radios?

Like

   SCR-287, ARC-5, etc.    B17 engines on take-off (gonna get that tomorrow)

   SCR-245, etc.           Dozer track-on-dry-pavement clatter to sound 
                           like 1935 tank or half-track

   SCR-284, SCR-178, etc.  Infantry hf - open mike @ firing range oughta do it.

   SCR-183/283             Open-cockpit 1935 HF.  Live mic in Stearman
                           PT17 w. J600 oughta might be right.

This pursuit reminds me of fun.
