A thoughtful woman i work with advised me of this item she saw
in the Salem, Oregon "Statesman Journal". ( Thanks, Jacque ).
It's right in the "LOCAL/ STATE section C", right out on the first
page:

EXHIBIT TO SHOW VINTAGE RADIOS

".......Ham radio operators will gather at the 4H Center northwest
of West Salem on Saturday and Sunday to share their hobby
with others. For the first time, operators such as Christopher
Rumbaugh will put their collections of vintage military
communications
equipment on display....

"About a half dozen collectors will participate in this weekend's
event.
Rumbaugh described members as 30 to 50-something men, half of
whom served in the military....

"He said anyone interested in history, electronics, and
communications
would enjoy seeing the equipment....

"Rumbaugh's collection consists of squad and tactical level
equipment,
primarily pack radios from the 1950s through the early 1980s....

[ What, no AMA's, no BC-222s, no MBM's or PRC-1's ??? What kind
of an inspection is this??? ]

"Some of the equipment is rare, and most of it is cumbersome.....

[Read that 'built to take it' ]

"A pack radio, for example, weighs abouti 20 lbs. ....

[ Why so light? No PS ? ]

...and has the power equivalent of today's pocket size
cellular phones.

[ But the cellphones aren't bullet proof. ]

"There's a kind of a magic draw to radio and signals
coming over the air, particularly shortwave, and getting
to listen to different countries," Rumbaugh said.

Amen.
Too short notice maybe even for some locals, but
sounds like quite fun and good publicity. Maybe even
plant some seeds for future recruitments. Great to
see this article, which i have only exerpted, placed
prominently in the newspaper.
