I think everyone is missing the point about use the ARC-5 in the QUOTE
broadcast band UNQUOTE. In England
and most of the mainland of Europe the "Broadcast band" was around250 KCs
and not 510-1600 as in the states, therefore the 510-1500 was an ideal band
for communications for air-to-ground in that theater of operations. Check
your history and you will see that the most common BBC station operated on
250 Kcs.
