Greg.....those were known as "Western Union Mills".......there certainly
were thousands produced and were not only used by communicators but in
businesses they were used for shipping records and invoices etc.

The legendary SCR299 came equipped with a portable mill in an olive drab
finish......what a gem that was.  I used to copy press on it in the islands.

Some big city typewriter repair facilities probably have one or two stuck in
the back room as there is no demand for them.
