Marty,

I wrote all of this up in some detail here several months ago. The
AN/GRC-9, when it came out in FY '45 (CY '46) used everything that was th=
en
current with the SCR-694 except (obviously) the radio, the canvas backpac=
k
bag and the two-piece vehicular mount. The radio set revision letters
identify the introduction of new power supplies.

AN/GRC-9 PE-237 or GN-58-A
AN/GRC-9A DY-88/GRC-9A
AN/GRC-9X DY-105/GRC-9X and then DY-105A/GRC-9X
AN/GRC-9Y PP-327/GRC-9Y
AN/GRC-87 G-43/G

Aside from the circuit complexity, the main drawback to the PE-237 is its=

weight, easily twice that of the dynamotors that superceded it. I've
worked on a couple and shipped several. Neither operation was a whole lo=
t
of fun.

TM 11-263, first published 06/25/46, was reissued 03/01/51 and again
06/20/56. The last change to the '56 edition (Change 4) is dated =

12/21/61. The pack set and vehicular set components were redesignated
AN/GRC-87 and AN/VRC-34 respectively, circa 1963 (TM 11-5820-453-nn).
