Group,
I wrote this some time ago and for some reason stuck it into the Unfinish=
ed
folder (dinner bell probably rang) so it is a little late as far as the
thread is concerned, but the capacitors might still be of use to someone.=
Mike's comments in the BC-474 thread about the missing capacitors in his
FL-10 reminded me of some that I have that may fit another application (n=
ot
even close for the FL-10). A few weeks ago I had an email from another
list member who in passing, mentioned that he had just acquired an RA-74-=
D
(one of several power supplies for the military Hammarlund Super Pro's) a=
nd
said that he had his fingers crossed hoping that none of the filter
capacitors were bad, as the odds of finding replacements were probably sl=
im
to none. The capacitors in question are 4ufd/600VDC in tubular metal can=
s
with the threaded nose on one end for single hole mounting. I keep
forgetting to check the TM but memory says that there are either 9, 12 or=
16 of them in the PS. Not two days later, I picked up several boxes in m=
y
storage building (to get at something under them) and discovered that eac=
h
box contained two such capacitors. The ones that I have are from the Nav=
y
ARD-2 spares and the Super Pro TM's only have Signal Corps part numbers
listed so I don't know for sure that these will fit, but I'd be surprised=
if they don't. Anyway, if anyone needs such a widget and wants to try
these, I'll take them back if they don't fit. I reformed four of them to=
600VDC with my Sprague TO-6A, and all four seem OK electrically after the=
therapy.
