Al,

What Al says is in general true. A lot more people will recognize the se=
t
nomenclature than will recognize the component nomenclature. However, it=

is better still to note both. The CRI-43007 for example was used with th=
e
TBY through TBY-3. The CRI-43044 was used with the TBY-4 through TBY-8. =

The 43007 has a fixed antenna while the 43044 has a spring in the base
section plus a detended rotary mount so that the antenna could be made to=

point up regardless of whether the Marine carrying it was standing up or
lying flat on his stomach. There are some other electrical and mechanica=
l
differences as well, but the antenna is the most obvious.

Hi Al,
The key to solving these problems is reading further down
the tag to where it says something like: "A UNIT OF MODEL
TBY-2 RADIO EQUIPMENT" Then run a google search on, e.g.,
"TBY RADIO" There's a schematic at: =

http://hereford.ampr.org/millist/m24.html

Hardly any one remembers the Navy numbers like CRI-43007,
but there's plently of recognition for the system ID's like
TBY, TBX, RAL, etc.
