Marty, (1) T-6's in Korea used the 522 or ARC-3's like everyone else.
The first UHF 200-400 MHz installed in USAF Control Towers and Air Traffic
Control Centers started in 1954, and was standard in 1955 (along with
the AN/FRC-19 control tower console). I have pictures of me and a few
others installing that stuff. (2) You never heard of "Mosquito Snowflake"?
Ask your F-94 driver. T-6's flew out of K-14, Kimpo, and K-13, Suwan, then.
I have a good book about that. "Yea, Brave Coward". I've made a few URD-2
VHF DF runs with them guys. (3) At Randolph and scads of other training
fields the tower transmitted on LF, and received on HF. Ever see
old wartime pictures of the control towers? Two numbers were painted on
them; the field altitude, and the tower LF frequency. Most small
trainers didn't have a radio. Learned that when I was in Air Traffic
Control School; "NORADO" would be in their flight plan. And, Marty,
I have some kind of proof to back up all my war stories, weird as they are.
